EMT - A Selection
A seminar on the introduction of EMT-A was hosted by NATS/UCD in Sheldon Park Hotel, Dublin on Tuesday 5th November 2002. This seminar was sponsored by PHECC.
This was an extremely valuable exercise and broad range of topics were discussed. The proceedings of this seminar will be the subject of an official report by the organise rs in due course.
There was unanimous agreement from the fioor that PHECC be mandated to co-ordinate an initiative to develop the selection procedures for the first two cohorts. This process involves consultation with representatives from the key stakeholders:
- Service Providers
- Staff Representative Organisations
- Training Institutions
- HeBE
- PHECC
Additional selection recommendations originating from the seminar were:
- PHECC to establish a national selection criteria
- Selection would be done on a regional basis
- Prerequisites for selection would include;
- Experience as an EMT in an Irish Ambulance Service
- Practiced in conducting in-service training
PHECC have noted these recommendations and commenced a consultative process, which we hope will produce a set of agreed selection cri teria early in 2003.
