Fitness to Practice

An essential part of any healthcare regulatory system is an effective
Fitness to Practise facility. Fitness to Practise protects the public, individual
registered practitioners and the profession.

The PHECC Register of pre-hospital emergency care practitioners is established and operational. Following selection panel interviews and an election process, a panel of registered practitioners has been created from which the practitioner’s members on the Fitness to Practise Committee and supporting committees will be selected. The rules and procedures for Fitness to Practise have also been approved by Council.

As this is a new concept for prehospital emergency care practitioners in Ireland PHECC are now embarking on a training programme for the registered practitioner panel members. This training, being carried out during February 2008, will include contributions by the Medical and Nursing professions, the Health Professionals Council in the UK, Patient Representative Group in Ireland, PHECC and PHECC’s legal advisors.
