Frontline Mo-Bro’s – supporting the fight against cancer and raising awareness of men’s mental health issues
PHECC registered practitioners are always surprising us with their activities for charity.
Each year in November men around the world join together in unison and donate their upper lips to charity. No matter how good or bad their moustaches are they all have one goal, to raise awareness for the charity that's become known as Movember. In Ireland members of the emergency and voluntary services have been growing Mo’s to support the fight against men’s cancer and to bring awareness and support to men's mental health issues.
Since Movember came to Ireland groups within these services have set up small individual teams, raising funds separately. However, in 2016, several organisations teamed up and the Frontline Mo-Bro’s was formed, consisting of personnel representing Dublin Fire Brigade, An Garda Siochana, Civil Defence, Irish Coast Guard, Irish Defence Forces, Kildare Fire Service, Guinness Fire Brigade and Dublin Airport Fire and Police Service’s. Additionally, the Road Safety Authority, Irish Water Safety and Order of Malta supported these fundraising initiatives.
The Frontline Mo-Bro’s raised over €19,000 last November in their fundraising efforts, and also won the title of No. 1 Movember fundraisers for Ireland.
Both the emergency and voluntary services deal with death and heartache on a daily basis and although Movember’s primary role is to fight cancer, it has adopted a secondary objective, the welfare of men's mental health through education and talking.
The Frontline Mo-Bro’s will be back again later this year, bigger and better, and membership is open to all members of the emergency and voluntary services.
