The National Ambulance Service (NAS) CISM Committee announces new Regional Coordinators and a Restructured Committee with two new Joint Chairs
The National Ambulance Service (NAS) Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) Committee and Programme was established in 1997 as a partnership between the then regional health boards, ambulance service staff representative bodies and the Department of Health & Children. Today the Programme is led by the National Co-ordinating Committee which includes representatives of all the stakeholders. On the 16th November last, the CISM Committee in collaboration with the CISM team at NUI Maynooth ran a CISM Seminar in Renehan Hall on the University Campus, aimed at NAS staff with an interest in CISM and the NAS CISM research findings.

Ireland's First Emergency Aeromedical Service
On June 4th of this year the National Ambulance Service (NAS) saw a huge leap forward in their rapid response capabilities with the launch of the new Emergency Aeromedical Service (EAS). The new service, a joint project between the HSE and the Defence Forces, means that NAS paramedics now have the assistance of a dedicated military helicopter for the rapid transfer of critical patients to the most suitable hospital.

PHEC Training in Pakistan
Since 2007 staff members of the National Ambulance Service College have participated in a number of development programmes at various locations throughout Pakistan. The first programme started in the city of Peshawar, in the North Western province of Pakistan, recently re-named as Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

Treat and Referral - An Update
The last edition of the PHECC voice outlined the proposed introduction of treat and referral into the Irish emergency medical services. The key principle of treat and referral is to demonstrate the safety of this process through a research project. The research project will be led by Brian Power, Programme Development Officer PHECC, as a UCD PhD study supervised by Prof.Gerard Bury.

EMS - 150 Years of Service in Dublin
Dublin Fire Brigade (DFB) celebrated its 150th year of operational service to the citizens of the capital in June this year. During the weekend’s festivities and commemorations the brigade highlighted its history in providing emergency medical care for the public.

First Aid Education European Network Meeting Hosted by Irish Red Cross
11th – 13th October 2012, Malahide, Co. Dublin
The Red Cross & Red Crescent First Aid Education European Network (FAEEN) meets annually to share experiences and discuss challenges in providing first aid education. The aim is to enable access for as many people as possible in Europe to first aid education. FAEEN represents a link between operational reality and governance and supports the smooth dissemination of first aid information for each Red Cross & Red Crescent national society.
