Council’s Quality Review Framework for Recognised Institutions
The Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council (PHECC) is the statutory body responsible for setting the standards for education and training in pre-hospital emergency care in Ireland. It is also responsible for the quality of the awards made in its name and the quality of the courses that lead to those awards. Responsibility for developing and delivering courses is delegated to Recognised Institutions (RIs), who delivery courses on behalf of PHECC. RIs should aspire to excellence in the development and delivery of all courses. Such aspirations require regular monitoring, review and constructive dialogue to provide the necessary assurance about standards and quality.

PHECC Clinical Audit Standard
In November 2014 PHECC Council approved the PHECC Clinical Audit Standard. This standard was published by the HSE Quality and Patient Safety Directorate in 2013 and is a practical guide to clinical audit in the healthcare environment.

CISM eLearning stress awareness training for Cardiac First Responders
The CISM stress awareness training module has now being implemented for all registered practitioners, NAS personnel who are not registered practitioners and just recently the module was launched for cardiac first responders at the Respond 2015 (http://www.cfr.ie/) in March. NAEMSP 2015 Conference
The Annual Meeting of the National Association of Emergency Medical Services Physicians (NAEMSP) took place on 22nd – 24th January. Niamh Cummins (Research Manager, CPR) and Mark Dixon (Senior Lecturer, Paramedic Studies) travelled to New Orleans, Louisiana for the conference. The hotel venue was adjacent to the famous “Superdome” that sheltered so many when Hurricane Katrina devastated the city in 2005. In fact one of the key note speakers at the conference was General Russel L. Honoré who spoke about the impact of Katrina on the city 10 years later.

Research at Respond 2015
Respond 2015 took place on Saturday 7th March in Tullamore, Co. Offaly and began in style with a CPR flashmob! The conference built on the success of the inaugural event last year and was attended by over 300 delegates. Keynote speakers included the renowned Prof Douglas Chamberlain, Dr. Mark Wilson speaking about the GoodSAM app and Dr Cathal O’Donnell (Medical Director, National Ambulance Service; NAS) presenting on the One Life Project.

Responder Examination Handbook
A new edition of the Responder Examination Handbook was recently published. This edition supersedes information contained in any previous editions. New to this handbook is First Aid Responder (FAR) and FAR Instructor and Emergency First Response, EFR-BTEC and EFT-BTEC Instructor. In addition we have included information on how to purchase CFR training materials.

UL "Introduction to Research" workshop review
The most recent CPR “Introduction to Research” workshop on Wednesday 6th May was reviewed by Mr. Stephen O’Flaherty (Paramedic, National Ambulance Service, Co. Cork) for the Irish College of Paramedics. Stephen was the inaugural winner of the CPR “Best CPG Forum Post” in 2014 and the prize for this was free attendance at a Research Workshop of his choice in 2015.
